In The Farmers Almanac for 1823 published at Andover, Mass., the following was printed under the heading, “Character of a Freemason”:

I just wanted to share my impressions from accompanying my niece and her parents on their first visit to the Shriner’s hospital in St. Paul.

From the moment we arrived it was clear that this was a place for kids and about kids.  Somehow you managed to make a hospital that was fun and engaging, but also calm and relaxing.  She loved the games in the waiting room and the iPad in the exam room.  The staff was so patient with her! Most of all, though, we received the most attention and the best care any of the four of us had ever seen.  The doctors were great with her, and they really took their time explaining things and making sure everyone understood what was going on and what they recommended and why they recommended it.  They didn’t talk about her like she wasn’t in the room, even when they were throwing out words and concepts she didn’t understand.  I don’t believe we could have received better care at any price anywhere in the world.  The fact that generous donors around the country make it possible for us to worry about our beautiful girl’s foot and not about how we’re going to pay for it is almost unbelievable.  God bless the Shriners!

2013 Shrine Ride Friday night August 16th thru Sunday August 18th

15 rooms are blocked off at the River Inn in Boscobel, WI.  It’s a small town located in western Wisconsin. It is 124 miles from Cedar Rapids & 125 from Waterloo so it will be easy enough to leave after 5 PM Friday and get there before dark for those that still work. If the 15 rooms get reserved, more will be added. The blocked rooms will be held until July 16th. After that those not reserved will go back on the available list.

We’ll do a nice ride Saturday and also for our return trip Sunday. As always everything else will be arranged for the weekend.

This may seem a little early to make reservations, but this year the motels are filling up early. Courtney at the River Inn has been great to work with!

Obviously there will be more information to follow. When you have made reservations, please complete the following form and the information will be sent to Jim Mouchka.

This is not limited to just motorcycles!
